Meet Our Pastor
Pastor Roger Tolliver was born August 29, 1943 in Peirpoint, WV. As one of the middle children with 5 brothers and sisters, they were never considered to have had much material things. What they did have was more valuable, family. Pastor often recalls and can remember his mother on her knees praying for God to keep and save her six children, naming them aloud each time. We still feel that same sense of family each time he takes the pulpit.

On June 12, 1964 he married "his beloved" Carolyn Loraine Friend, commonly referred to now simply as "Memom" to all who know her. They have two sons, RD born in 1966, and Brian born in 1972.

Pastor answered the call of the Lord to save his soul in August of 1974. He was so excited he says he wanted "to wake up the Mayor of Beckley" to spread his good news. The Lord instilled in him a desire to be as close as possible; to live the Word, not just read it. Again answering the call, he was licensed to preach the gospel in January of 1979.

In January of 1980 he was asked to "fill in" as a pastor; within three months he was unanimously voted to remain full time as the permanent pastor of Maynard Freewill Baptist Church. During his 10 year ministry there God blessed in many ways, many souls were saved, the attendance of the church tripled, and the church had expanded three times with building projects.

In August of 1993, after being approached by a small group, Cornerstone Freewill Baptist Church was founded with him as our pastor. God has blessed our church abundantly with growth, and in 1997 Pastor Toilliver again stepped out in faith and left his job with Norfolk and Southern Railroad to be a full time minister.

He often says "That nobody has more fun than we do", and anytime you are in his presense you just know that he loves you.The amount of awards, recognition and praise that we feel he deserves could not possibly be contained on this or any page, and anyone that knows him would understand that he doesnt want it.

His undertaking to "Make a Difference" has never changed. Pastor and his wife will continue to labor in all God calls them to do, right up until the day he hears "Well done, my good and faithful servant".

We love you Pastor Tolliver,
Cornerstone Freewill Baptist Church
